  • The Consul's File by Paul Theroux
    Expat beware...

Taking in place in the backwater of the American Consulate in Ayer Hitam, Malaysia, this collection of short stories detail the life and characters, local and expatriate, in vivid colour, through the eyes of a young American consul. This curious mix of anecdotes will interest anyone who wants to have a feel of what life is like in South-East Asia in the 70s, and life in the foreign service.

  • Three Stations (Arkady Renko) by Martin Cruz Smith
Investigator Arkady Renko's dysfunctional adventures continue...

We're huge fans of the Arkady Renko series, but we're kind of on the fence with this one. With high expectations since we have been treated to in Gorky Park and Red Square, while Three Stations is a decent page-turner, it pales in comparison. What still amazes us that our detective hero has over 30 years of experience since his case in Gorky Park, and the new Russia has no shortage of sinister elements for him to battle.

  • Garkhov's Diary by Stephan Dewar
The secret life of the Russian oligarch revealed!
Stephan is no stranger to the expat community in Moscow, and wrote Garkhov's Diary, a fictitious account of an oligarch of Putin's Russia that quickly became a hit to those who managed to get a hold of it. Now, Garkhov's Diary is finally out in paperback, as well as in the Kindle format! A laugh-a-minute, twisted tale of Russian business, hilarious attempts to fit into high society, absurd parenting strategies, money laundering, goons, dogs, girls and guns... and of course, vodka... what could anything be more fun?
